The first photo is my old bus stop, Corlies and Remsen Mill Rd., when I attended St. Rose before my Dad was transferred to PA and I had to leave Neptune. When I went to Holy Innocents, I walked home through the graveyard (pictured) every day; I feel like I know every stone, angel, and house shown. My Mom was our local Girl Scout leader (Troop 435; we met in the First Aid bldg in Hamilton) and she took the whole troop to that cemetery to make gravestone rubbings. Now she’s gone, I’ve been gone from Neptune for 36 years, and those beautiful homes are coming down. So, so sad. For what it’s worth, my husband and I bought a handyman-special 300 yr. old house here in PA, which we’ve been busy “saving” for the last 20 years.

My grandparents own a house on Old Corlies, near the Plantation House. I have always loved the older houses shaded by mature trees. It is sad to see the past go.

So much has changed in the last 15 years. I remember when the area where the apartments are was just trees. Just west of that wooded area was an old farm-type house that could be seen as one exited onto Old Corlies from Gully road and there was one or two others on the corner of Gully and Old Corlies. They were boarded up. I often wondered who they once belonged to. There was also an old building that stood empty for years across from the wooded area. My mother told me it was a general/hardware store of some sort at one time. None of those buildings are there today.
