Not Just A Local Issue

April 5th, 2010

Recently, the Old Corlies Avenue Preservation Alliance (OCAPA) presented the Neptune Board of Adjustment (BOA) and the Neptune Township Committee with a detailed statement titled “Basis for Neptune Board of Adjustment to Rescind its Approval of the Application for a Car Wash/ Oil Change/ Lube Facility at 1019 Old Corlies Avenue”(which can be read in its entirety in the post below). This statement shows that a DEAL was consummated between the BOA and/or its engineers and the applicant, well before the public hearings were held, that the application would be approved in exchange for the applicant building some 610 feet of storm sewer along Old Corlies Avenue. The hearings turned out to be just a showcase on the design of the facility and the testimonies given an obvious attempt to justify the storm sewer were both inaccurate and untruthful. Also, essential information that the BOA`s engineers and its attorney should have brought to the attention of the BOA to make an objective decision was never mentioned and, therefore, never considered.

The need for the storm sewer was never justified, especially since there is an alternative available storm sewer connection downgrade in the dirt shoulder along Route 33, and the inaccurate and untruthful testimony given in support of it was in violation of the BOA`s own criteria, i.e. that approval is “SUBJECT TO ALL REPRESENTATIONS AND TESTIMONY OF THE APPLICANT BEING TRUTHFUL AND ACCURATE.”

What will the BOA do now? Will it do the right thing and rescind its approval of the application? The citizens of Neptune should make it known that they object strongly to such “under the table” DEALS and that the BOA should mend its ways now, starting with rescinding their approval of this application for a car wash/ oil change/ lube facility – NOW.
